Default Follow and be Followed - twitter

I'm certain there are a number of ways to attract followers to a twitter account. The obvious is "follow and be followed". Manually selecting follow targets can be time consuming if you work at finding ones that relate to your product or subject.

I found that using search (both "Find People" and regular search) to find ones related to your subject will yield some stars who have many followers that may just fit within your context. Click their "followers" link and take a look at some of them. If well targeted, you may be able to just start at the top of the page and click all the follow buttons. Next page, same thing. You can quickly follow a lot of tweeps and will begin to see your followers increase pretty quickly.

If your account is new, you'll hit the "following" wall at 2000. twitter will block you from following past 2000 if you haven't accumulated a certain ratio of followers. When that happens, go back through your following list and kick out the non productive ones. Then search again for new ones to follow.

Ed, I'm not sure if others noticed this. Just to refresh it, I noticed this ..
When you search a keyword to find tweeps, the search results are ordered according to the 'number of followers' those tweeps have. Why not just follow those who have over 100 (or whatever number you think is good) followers? So, lets say, the average number of followers on those 2000 tweeps you followed is 100/tweep (lets assume that out of 2000, 500 followed you in return, you are already tweeting your messages to over 50,000 tweeps).
Am i right?

Lets share the keywords you used to find tweeps ...

advertise, advertising, product, products, merchant, merchants, sell, seller, buy, buying, manufacturing. Found over 200 tweeps and carry followers from 30 to 3000.

Why targeting these keywords? Because they are relevant to my business (B2B). What keywords you used to search tweeps? Ed, you joined over 2000 tweeps. Geez .. that must have been blind clicking on Follow on who ever you found.

I believe in searching good keywords that are related to your business and following the tweeps with higher number of followers. Even if 20% follow you back, will give your tweets a good amount of exposure. Later comes what to tweet and what not and balancing how often should you tweet.

What do you think about this strategy?

Regards.

Yes, keyword searches is one way I've been looking at. BUT, twitter inconveniently left the follow button off all those results and you have to click the username to open their profile before you can click follow. The trick is finding tweeps with highly targeted followers. Then you can open their follower list where there are follow buttons, and just click down the page, go to the next page, and click down that page etc.

Ed, this is how I see when I search a keyword and I don't have to go into any profiles to see the number of followers or follow tweeps:

Hmmm .. thats a very good strategy. But how do you find tweeps with high number of followers?

Edit: Just noticed something that I had overlooked in that screenshot. Affiliate Summit has two accounts, don't know whats the idea though

Yours is a name search, which I don't necessarily call a keyword search. Keyword (realtime) searches result with a list as shown below. No follow buttons...

How do you do a keyword search? I have looked through all the tabs on my twitter page and don't find where I could do a keyword search. Is that some 3rd party site related to twitter where you do a keyword search?
Regards.

That's the trick. You have to just hunt and peck around. You might check some of the notables in the particular subject you're interested in.

I have no idea why Affiliate Summit would be running two almost identical accounts.

twitter released a new nav bar. Only two of my accounts have it so far. Also, there is a "search" link at the bottom of every page. Or you can just go to http://search.twitter.com.

Hmmm there is another button up there that says "Suggested Users" and includes 50 or so profiles. Found anything good in them?

They tweet Affiliate Summit updates and news through one and Re-tweet through the other .. hehe I guess, they can keep their tweets alive for a longer period that way. Hmmm I see that you can almost create a swarm of twitter accounts and then relay news from and re-tweet on the rest each day. lets say, you have 30 accounts, you can keep the news alive almost for a month if you re-tweet one by one from other accounts.
Am I making sense ... I don't know if that would work but yeah, its gonna be a little painful to organize so many accounts lol. AffiliateSummit seems to be cashing their 'name' by creating two (maybe more) accounts. Watcha say ..

Regards.

I think those are probably un-targeted and general interest tweeps.

Seems like that would have diminishing returns as followers go and may be confusing. Followers would get tired of redundant updates if they're following both accounts...

Thats true, however, Aff Summit is doing that. They are RTweeting each and every affiliatesummit's tweet. Maybe, need to explore a little more to understand whats going on...
