Default Shopping Cart / eCommerce Store

I need to find a way to setup the shopping cart on my ecommerce (dropshipping) website. I will be using Paypal for payment. I will be using an Apache server to host my website on. I know some about databases and php (probably just enough to get in trouble) but am willing to spend time to learn it if I need to. I don't really want to go the Yahoo store route if I can help it.

Any suggestion for me to explore? (To learn php/database or a template website I can customize, etc.)

What platform are you using?

If I decide to pay someone to setup the shopping cart what should I expect to pay?

If you like reading, fine.
Php is a programing language in it self.
Mysql or mysquli is also used to do different thing with the databases.

And another option I use to use was soholaunch program but it also has a tough learning curve like Joomla.

If you would like any books PM and I see you get some of them on PHP or Database Designs.

Our site is built on the MS server platform with ASP, so that would not be much help. For what it's worth, the basic ecommerce solution is called VPASP, but looks nothing like the original as I've done extensive modification to it.

Most, if not all serious ecommerce packages will cost. I don't have any suggestions other than to search and compare. Weigh the options and ease of administration. And of course the price...
